Likewise, Dr. Fenn. Grateful to have your excellent thoughts on this important subject, in which there is a role for men to participate and better understand.
Amen — Thanks for digging into this, Paul — and Annie. That Womens Health Initiative sure did us a disservice (what else are we getting wrong?). I would only add that some women have very few (or mild) menopausal symptoms. My sisters and I for example. No hot flashes! But dryness, yes, and Estradiol treats that well. I would also put a plug in for testosterone which maintains libido.
I’m not sure that my taking these hormones constitutes “medicalization.” Is taking calcium for bone density medicalization of aging?
I went cold turkey through menopause because of the WHO study. 10-15 years ago none of my doctors had any advice, just hormones = breast cancer. However I started on hormones when I turned 60. It was a game changer for me. My husband is much more aware because of my conversations with him about my experiences . What I see now is that his awareness has helped in the workplace where he works with women ages 30-60. The more info the better. Thank you both!
Hi Marianne! I am so sorry to hear you were a casualty of poor advice around MHT but your husband sounds like a super partner! This is really inspiring.
Great job on this important topic Annie! The Menopause Society does maintain a list of certified menopause society practitioners in all states. And, that list is growing!
I was just talking with my wife about this over the weekend. The more we normalize real conversations about menopause — especially with men — the stronger our relationships, understanding, and support systems become. More of this, please since I am illiterate on the topic.
Always a pleasure to speak with you Paul! Thanks for asking all the right questions. I'd be happy to answer more as they come up.

Thanks again you two.
You’re very welcome Judy!

Thanks for the reminder Karen! Here's the link to search for a menopause practitioner state by state: https://portal.menopause.org/NAMS/NAMS/Directory/Menopause-Practitioner.aspx

Bryan, I appreciate your sentiment. Also, you’re not illiterate anymore!
